Accessibility statement
Last updated: April 27, 2026
1. Our commitment
VetScan is built on the belief that every dog parent deserves access to clear, calm health guidance — including dog parents who use assistive technology, have visual or hearing differences, or rely on keyboard-only navigation.
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance across the entire site and product, and we treat accessibility issues as bugs, not feature requests.
2. What we do today
- Keyboard navigation — every interactive element on the site can be reached and activated with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and Space
- Screen reader support — semantic HTML, ARIA labels on icons, hidden text alternatives for decorative graphics
- Sufficient color contrast — body text and UI controls meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text)
- Resizable text — the layout works at 200% browser zoom without breaking
- Focus indicators — visible focus rings on all interactive elements; never removed without a visible alternative
- No autoplay audio or video — animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference - Form labels — every input has an associated label; error states are announced to screen readers
- Skip-to-content link planned for Q2 2026
3. Tested with
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- NVDA on Windows
- Keyboard-only navigation in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox
- axe DevTools automated checks (run before each release)
- Manual testing at 200% zoom, high-contrast mode, and dark-mode preferences
4. Known limitations
We try to be honest about what isn't yet perfect:
- The animated dog mascot SVG on the home page does not yet have a full descriptive text alternative — currently labeled simply as "decorative." A descriptive label is planned for Q2 2026.
- The mobile menu open/close animation may not announce state changes consistently across all screen readers — under investigation.
- Some long-form legal pages do not yet have a fully linked table of contents — planned for Q3 2026.
5. In progress
- Full WCAG 2.1 Level AA audit — targeted Q3 2026
- High-contrast mode toggle — design exploration phase
- Dyslexia-friendly font option — under consideration
- Voice input for symptom entry — in product roadmap (post-launch)
6. Standards we follow
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — primary target
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — US
- European Accessibility Act (EAA) — EU, applicable from June 2025
- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) — Canada
7. Reporting an issue
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on VetScan:
- Email: hello@vetscan.app with subject line "Accessibility issue"
- Please describe the issue, the page where you found it, and the assistive technology you were using
- We respond within 5 business days
- We aim to fix critical issues (blocks core functionality) within 30 days; non-critical issues are scheduled into the next sprint
Accessibility feedback is taken seriously. We treat it as a bug report, not a complaint.
